Fees and playing uniform
Playing junior AFL is cheaper than many other club sports. Our registered players are given a playing guernsey for the season (to be returned at the end) so parents just need to buy shorts, socks and footy boots. We sell the shorts and socks at our clubhouse, along with other merchandise such as training tops, and you can also order from our online shop to pick up at the clubhouse.
The registration fee combines payments to the AFL (League Fee) and a club fee (Dragon’s Fee). This is already applied when registering via play.afl.
Age Group | League Fee | Dragons Fee | Total Fee |

Locations
Auskick is always at our home ground at Hilder Rd State School.
Auskick Play teams play home and away, with away games at Ferny Grove Falcons (Tramway St, Ferny Grove) and Everton Wolves (93 Mott St, Enoggera).
Junior Footy teams also play regularly against Ferny Grove and Everton, and other teams in our division in the past have included Aspley, Kedron and Mayne Tigers (Nundah)
Games are generally Saturday mornings but can occasionally be Friday night.
Schedule
The season schedule is managed and communicated by AFLQ Brisbane Juniors using Play HQ, which is also used for player registration. Log in and select The Gap JAFC to stay informed of when and where your upcoming games are.
Optional pre-season training for Junior Footy players is at our home ground from Thursday 15th Feb 5pm to 6pm for 7 weeks leading up to the Easter school holidays. Scheduled games begin Saturday April 27, with regular season training on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4.30 to 5.30pm from Wed April 17.
Auskick Play players also train on Wednesday 4.30 to 5.30pm from May 1 ahead of their season start May 11.
There are no games or training during school holidays.
Volunteers
As a community sports club we rely heavily on parents and other volunteers. Parents or other family members are needed to help with the following positions.
- Team manager – every team needs one, to communicate with the coach and other parents and to fill in the official team list for each game
- Coaches – helping our little players enjoy their footy and develop their skills can be very rewarding. Coaches always welcome other parent helpers during training too.
- Ground marshall – a short online training course from AFL is all that’s required to help in this role, making sure the grounds and everyone on them are safe
- First aid – we’re always on the lookout for first-aid trained volunteers, but most commonly this involves fetching some magic spray or an ice pack and checking on the players
- Goal flags – get in amongst the goal action
- Timekeeper – You’ll be given the times, you just need to blow the siren
Speak with one of our committee members if you think you can help out in any of these positions.
Umpires
We also have opportunities for interested teens or adults to be trained as paid umpires for Saturday morning weekend home games at Hilder Rd.
If you are 12 or older from January 1st, 2024 then consider being a club umpire starting at AUSKICK/JUNIOR FOOTY level (Under 6.5) through to under 10.5.
It’s fun, so have a go! No costs are involved, and you receive payment from the Dragons for your time and effort. We will teach you the rules of AFL and supply a uniform and whistle, so there is no requirement to have any prior knowledge or experience.
All new umpires start off umpiring in tandem in Under 8’s with an experienced umpire under a tutor/buddy system so they actively learn and umpire from someone who has had a couple of years experience.
When AUSKICK PLAY (Auskick age kids) start games later in the season, new umpires will get their chance to umpire solo for all our budding beginner level footballers.
Payments can be made via EFT to your bank account through the club if you wish (cash payments also OK).
